Biological Sciences
The biological sciences encompass many fields. Biologists study the structure and functions of living organisms from the individual cell to the full organism, and collectively to the community level. Drexel at BCC's program in Biological Sciences focuses on experientially based instruction to provide you with the knowledge, tools, and skills you'll need.
Our curriculum, the same as that taught in Drexel University's College of Arts and Sciences, includes extensive use of computers in the laboratory, as well as a strong foundation in a range of scientific fields to prepare you for a career in the private sector, government, and research laboratories, as well as for advanced graduate study in teaching, medicine, and other health related specialties.
The program can be completed in two years of full-time study. Part-time options are available.
Drexel Co-op Opportunities
Biological Sciences majors participate in one six-month period of full-time employment through Drexel's renowned co-operative education program. Visit our Co-op Opportunities webpage for more information.
Sample Courses
Comparative Physiology – Provides comparative study of vertebrate and invertebrate animals. Examines physiological principles by studying cardiovascular adaptations, water balance, respiratory adaptations, and other homeostatic mechanisms in model systems including fish, amphibians, mammals, birds, and invertebrates.
Genetically Modified Foods – Covers the application of recombinant DNA techniques in the creation of genetically modified foods. Explores the many uses of these foods, as well as the social, ethical, and environmental issues involved in the use of genetically modified foods.
Biology of Stress – Focuses on the biological responses to physical and psychological stress, discussing in turn stress responses in various organ systems. Emphasis is given to the analysis and evaluation of conflicting biological evidence on stress effects.

Prerequisite Coursework
Students enrolled in Burlington County College's Associate of Science program in Biology and students who have completed similar coursework elsewhere may be eligible for this program. Visit the BCC website and review the required courses for the Associate of Biology.
Plan of Study for BCC Students
We've developed a comprehensive plan of study for BCC students who enter the Drexel at BCC Biological Sciences program. This plan outlines the required courses students must complete to receive a bachelor's degree from Drexel. It also indicates how the BCC semester credits convert to Drexel quarter credits.
